There’s no bad time to visit Placencia, but there are definitely smart times. This guide walks month by month so you can match your trip to what you actually want: perfect weather, rock-bottom rates, empty beaches, or whale shark season.
The quick answer
If you want perfect weather + reasonable prices: mid-November, mid-January to early February, or mid-April.
If you want to save 30–50%: May, June, or mid-October.
If you want to avoid crowds: May, November (not Thanksgiving week), or early December.
Dry season (December–April)
December. Dry, 82°F days, mid-70s nights. Christmas/New Year rates are 2–3x normal. First three weeks are calm and cheap; last week books up a year ahead.
January. Our personal favorite month. Dry, cool breezes, clear water. Rates drop after January 5. Whale sharks haven’t arrived yet — save diving for April.
February. Peak of high season. Book direct well ahead — our 1BR units fill first.
March. Spring break crowds the last two weeks. Water warm enough to snorkel without a shorty.
April. Whale shark aggregation at Gladden Spit (full moon weeks). Serious divers should plan around this.
Shoulder season (May — the sleeper month)
May is underrated. It’s still dry most days, the crowds have evaporated, and rates drop ~30% from April. Stone crab season opens. You’ll have the Sidewalk mostly to yourself. Some tour operators reduce schedules — check before you book.
Rainy season (June–October)
“Rainy” here means heavy afternoon showers, not all-day rain. Mornings are almost always clear. Temperatures are warm (upper 80s). Humidity is real.
June. Prices at their lowest. Lobster season opens June 15. If you love seafood, this is a great month.
July–August. Family travel bump for US summer vacation. Rates tick up slightly but nothing close to winter prices.
September. Peak hurricane risk. Flight cancellations possible. Only come if you have flex and travel insurance.
October. Hurricane risk drops through the month. Rates at their absolute lowest. Excellent for long-stays in larger units like The Home where cooking in helps dodge closed restaurants.
November: the perfect month, maybe
Rainy season is tapering. Dry season hasn’t fully kicked in. Rates are still low for the first three weeks. Restaurants are fully open. The Lobster Festival happens the last weekend. Book first half of November for the best combination of weather and value.

Peak, Shoulder, and Low: How to Think About Placencia Seasons
Belize weather splits cleanly into dry and wet. Dry season runs late November through mid-June: clear skies, light easterly trade winds, reef visibility often 80 to 100 feet. Wet season runs late June through mid-November: afternoon thundershowers, higher humidity, reef visibility dropping to 40 to 70 feet on post-rain days but often recovering overnight. Rates track this pattern directly. High-season rates apply November 19 through June 19; low-season rates apply June 20 through November 18. Shoulder weeks in mid-June and mid-November are sometimes negotiable if you book direct.
Which Month Fits Your Priorities
Chasing whale sharks: April through June, timed to full moon. Chasing reef visibility: January through March. Chasing lowest rates: July through October. Chasing dry-season family weather without holiday crowds: early December or late April. Chasing festivals: February (Sidewalk Arts), June (Lobsterfest), September (Independence Day), October (Kriol Day), or November (Garifuna Settlement Day). Chasing personal quiet: September or October.
